Life Castings - The Process

Making the mould is a very simple procedure and only takes a couple of minutes. I use Medical Grade Alginate Gel to make the moulds, a natural safe material made from seaweed. It’s the same material used to make impressions of children’s mouth. So it’s very safe.

The gel is mixed with water until it becomes a blue coloured goo, then your child’s hand or foot or your pets paw is pressed into it. In less than a minute it sets firm into a jelly like consistency and the hand’ foot or paw will just slide out, leaving a perfect impression. The gel won’t stick to skin or fur; in fact it won’t stick to anything.

The mould will capture every slight detail, down to the finest fur and smallest wrinkle, from this the sculpture is produced.

After taking the initial mould, your finished sculpture should be ready in seven days. When completed I will contact you to arrange delivery of the finished item. Payment is required after viewing the finished product and when you are completely satisfied.
